FORTY FORT — Tax collection hours will be 2 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 9 and Dec. 30.


All taxes are now due at the penalty amount. No personal checks are accepted. Only bank checks or money orders are accepted for payment. If a receipt is needed, a self-addressed, stamped envelope must be included.


Anyone still owing delinquent recycling fees will be taken to the magistrate for collection at the end of the year. Letters have been sent showing outstanding balances. Property owners can contact the tax collector for the total due. As of Jan. 1, 2014, any unpaid taxes will be turned over to the Luzerne County Tax Claim Office.


HUGHESTOWN — Residents are reminded of the following:


• At the start of the new year, residents will once again be required to use building permits. This will be enforced.


• Recycling bins have been applied for and will be available at the beginning of the new year.


• The reorganization of the council will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 2 in the borough building.
