LAKE ARIEL, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a New York state man apparently drowned in a northeastern Pennsylvania lake over the weekend.

Officials said rescue crews in Wayne County were called to Paupackan Lake in Paupack Township on Sunday night.

Coroner Edward Howell said 29-year-old Gabriel Pierro of East Meadow, New York was found face-down in the lake at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday.

Howell said he was pronounced dead shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday. He said an autopsy is planned.

Paupackan Lake is a private development near Lake Wallenpaupack where many people have summer homes.
