WILKES-BARRE — A city police officer was injured while investigating a domestic dispute that resulted in the arrests of two men on assault charges and two women accused of obstructing justice.

Police said the officer sustained a shoulder injury during a struggle with Rymeek Hasan Shaw, 21, inside 336 Hazle Ave. just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

According to the criminal complaints:

Police responded to the residence on reports of a domestic disturbance and encountered Shaniva Young, 33, on the porch who advised officers no one had called police.

While officers were speaking with Young, James King, 18, emerged from the residence displaying “signs of violent behavior as he was shouting, clenching his fist” and yelled in the face of an officer, the complaints say.

Shaw restrained King, who punched the front door and allegedly yelled to an officer he was going to “(expletive) you up.”

As officers approached King to arrest him on charges he threatened a law enforcement officer, police allege Young and Stella Young, 50, blocked the front door preventing officers from entering the residence.

Police allege in the complaints Shaw physically obstructed officers yelling police did not have a warrant and to get out of his residence. Shaw allegedly fought with an officer who suffered a shoulder injury.

King walked toward to where Shaw was fighting with the officer as another officer deployed a Taser. King ran to a rear bedroom when the Taser cartridge became ineffective, the complaints say.

Other officers arrived assisting in the arrests of Shaw and King.

Police said after Shaw and King were arrested, Steven Gaudet was found in a bedroom bleeding from his head. Gaudet claimed Shaw struck him before police initially arrived at the residence, according to the complaints.

Stella Young allegedly told police King became upset at Gaudet when Gaudet smoked a cigarette inside the residence.

Police said the injured officer and Gaudet were treated at a local hospital.

Shaw was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $35,000 bail.

King was charged with simple assault, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, harassment and terroristic threats. He was jailed for lack of $25,000 bail.

Police said Stella Young and Shaniva Young were charged with obstruction of justice.
