WILKES-BARRE — Dress for Success Luzerne County will hold “A Celebration of our Hidden Gems,” event from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, with proceeds providing financial support to the organization which provides career appropriate attire and job training and educational opportunities to disadvantaged women in Luzerne County as they attempt to build careers or re-enter the workforce.
This 4th annual event is being held at Wise Crackers Comedy Club at Mohegan Sun Pocono. It is the “unofficial pre-party for Party on the Patio,” Mohegan Sun’s famed Thursday evening event featuring cover bands of music’s hottest acts. The theme this year is “Disco and Diamonds” as it is being held on the evening that Stayin’ Alive, the Bee Gees tribute band, is playing.
Attendees will have the opportunity to select a glass of champagne that may contain a 1 carat diamond being provided by Tovon & Company Diamonds. Participants will also be welcome to dig for other jewelry and prizes donated by local merchants. Along with high-end jewelry, prizes will range from gift baskets to gift cards to tools. The $25 entrance fee will include a chance to win the diamond and complimentary light hors d’oeuvres. A cash bar will be available.
“Dress for Success Luzerne County helps the women and families of our community get back to work and re-build their lives and those are the diamonds we are celebrating” says Tom Van Scoy, owner of Tovon & Company, “and Tovon is proud to be part of it. It’s going to be a lot of fun watching everyone try to guess which glass has the diamond and which ones have the other gem stones”.
“2015 has been a good year for Dress for Success,” stated Linda Armstrong, Founder and Executive Director of Dress for Success Luzerne County. “We have been able to expand our services to help more women in more ways. We do a lot more than provide clothing – we help change lives. It’s an honor to watch our women learn how to shine and take their place in the workforce.”
Since Dress for Success Luzerne County became operational in December 2010, the program has reached more than 600 economically disadvantaged women from the area by providing clothing and job interview support and guidance. Dress for Success Luzerne County continues to programs to enhance economic and social development, encouraging self-sufficiency through career development and employment retention.
