HARVEYS LAKE — A Scranton man who spent time in state prison for stealing items from vehicles in the Pittston area was arraigned Monday on similar charges.

Police said Douglas Sickler, 34, was arrested a residence in Lake Township was searched and items allegedly swiped from vehicles in Harveys Lake were recovered.

Police in Dallas and Dallas Township assisted with serving the search warrant.

Police allege Sickler is responsible for a rash of vehicle break-ins in Harveys Lake.

Sickler was arraigned on two counts each of receiving stolen property and theft and a single count of loitering and prowling at night. He remained jailed Tuesday at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $35,000 bail.

Court records say Sickler was paroled from state prison in April 2012, while serving a two-to-four-year sentence imposed by Senior Judge Hugh Mundy in May 2011.

According to court records:

• Duryea police charged Sickler with forgery and criminal conspiracy with stealing a wallet containing bank cards from a vehicle on Church Street the night of March 9 and March 10, 2009. Sickler used a stolen bank card to purchase an air mattress at Walmart Supercenter, Wilkes-Barre, Township, on March 10, 2009.

• Avoca police charged Sickler with receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy for his role with driving a vehicle stolen from Moosic on March 12, 2009.

• Sickler was sentenced by former judge Mark Ciavarella in October 2003, to 3 years, seven months to 16 years in state prison on charges he had stolen a vehicle from Wilkes-Barre and went joy riding damaging property at Schott Glass on York Avenue, Duryea, on April 4, 2003.

During a pursuit, Sickler had stolen another vehicle he abandoned while in gear, prompting an officer to jump into the moving vehicle to stop it, court records say.

Sickler appealed his sentence imposed by Ciavarella with the state Superior Court. He was re-sentenced in March 2013 to time served.
