PLYMOUTH — Kevin Kraner was at work in the overnight hours of Wednesday into Thursday when he got a phone call from his wife.

Kraner, 41, was informed by his wife that an SUV had crashed into their residence in the first block of Nottingham Street. As soon as he arrived home, Kraner saw the SUV that had plowed into the residence.

What he didn’t expect to see was evidence of gunshots in the back of the vehicle.

What he didn’t see at all was the driver. Kraner said onlookers told him a person fled the vehicle, but no further information was available.

Police had even less to say.

“We don’t know anything yet,” an officer told a reporter Thursday afternoon. “We’ll know more later.”

Kraner and his wife live on the second floor of the building, and he rents out the first floor residence. He explained that the previous tenants of the first floor were recently evicted, and he initially thought that the incident could have been related to that.

“Honestly, I thought it might have been disgruntled (tenants),” he said, but added that his wife’s safety was his first priority.

Kraner stood outside of the residence to survey the damage. He explained that the SUV did not do a significant amount of damage, and added that the building is insured.

“It’s really superficial,” he said. “It looks really bad, but this could be put back together in two days with the right couple of guys working.”

As if a vehicle driving into a building is not rare enough, Kraner added that gunshots in his neighborhood are “absolutely not” a common occurrence.

“I think there’s no place that’s safe on this planet,” he said. “You never know what you’re going to get on a daily basis.”
