KINGSTON – Dr. Anthony Grieco bid farewell to three outgoing members of the Luzerne Intermediate Unit Board of Directors Wednesday night, honoring them for both their service and their commitment to students.

Bruce Goeringer, Dallas, Mark Kornoski, Lake Lehman and Chester Beggs, Nanticoke, did not run for seats on the boards of their own districts and will be replaced on the unit’s board in December.

In addressing Goeringer and Kornoski, Grieco noted between them, they had 16 years of service on the board and had served under three executive directors.

He said he regretted Beggs was unable to attend his final meeting.

Kornoski, who served of president of the board for three years during his tenure, credited Grieco with hard work and employees whose efforts were “second to none.”

Goeringer said the LIU serves the needs of students of its member schools, enriching the community.

All three will be honored at a dinner during December.

The board has not yet determined who will replace the three departing members.

In other news, the board…

– Approved continuing professional education courses in areas ranging from teaching strategies for early elementary students to strategies for the inclusive classroom to understanding tragedy in the education community.

– Approved the filing of the Special Education Final Expenditure Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2015.

– Aapproved negotiated transportation routes for the 2015-2016 LIU Transportation Program, approved and reviewed by Grieco and the Director of Operational Services.

– Approved seven English as Second Language teachers attendance at a professional development training during December, to be paid from the 2015-16 Title III Grant.

The next meeting of the Luzerne Intermediate Unit will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 16.
