WILKES-BARRE – The City of Wilkes-Barre is reminding residents there will be no garbage or recycling collection on Thursday or Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The Department of Public Works will follow the current city calendar for the impacted zones:

• Saturday, Nov. 28 – Garbage pick-up only for South Wilkes-Barre 2, East End, Parsons, and Miners Mills. No recycling or yard waste.

• Thursday, Dec. 3 – Regular garbage/recycling/yard waste pick-up resumes for South Wilkes-Barre 2.

• Friday, Dec. 4 – Regular garbage/recycling/yard waste pick-up resumes for East End, Parsons, and Miners Mills.

This week also marks the final collection for yard waste in 2015. However, residents can still drop off acceptable yard waste at the DPW yard located at 3 Conyngham St., Wilkes-Barre, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Yard waste collection ends for South Wilkes-Barre 2, East End, Parsons, and Miners Mills after next week due to the holiday.

Residents are encouraged to reference the 2015 Wilkes-Barre City Calendar for collection schedules for the remainder of the year, particularly during holiday weeks. A copy of the calendar can be found at www.wilkes-barre.pa.us/forms/2015cal.pdf.
