FOSTER TWP. — State police on Friday charged a Foster Township man with aggravated assault after he allegedly attacked another man with a hammer.

At 5 a.m., police say that Joshua Schoonmaker, 35, entered the rest stop on Interstate 80 eastbound at mile marker 270 in Foster Township. Schoonmaker obtained a hammer from inside the rest stop and allegedly struck Rober Oney, of Moosic, over the head with it. Police say Schoonmaker then repeatedly struck Oney in the face with his fist before leaving the area on foot.

Police canvassed the area and found Schoonmaker walking on I-80 eastbound near mile marker 273, and he was arrested without incident.
