NANTICOKE — It may not feel like Christmas with mild weather and sunny temperatures, but the season is in full swing inside the Luzerne County Community College Educational Conference Center.

For the fifth year in a row, the college is hosting its Festival of Trees. The 10 decorated trees inside the center will be available for viewing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends through Dec. 20.

Trees are sponsored by community businesses and student clubs at the college. LCCC supplies the trees, space inside the building and advertising of the event.

“This year we have some new businesses that came on board,” said Rebecca Brominski, director of conference services and community outreach initiatives. “The businesses bring the lights and themes to decorate.”

According to Brominski, some of this year’s themes include a jewelry-adorned tree by Dress for Success – Luzerne County and an energy saving LED light tree by UGI Utilities Inc. WSFX, the college’s radio station, will decorate one with albums, CDs, 45s and cassette tapes.

Also sponsoring trees are the Nanticoke Historical Society, LCCC History Club, Choice One Federal Credit Union, LCCC Paranormal Club, Rustic Kitchen, LCCC Educational Conference Center and Classic Properties, according to a press release.

The college expects a couple hundred people to walk through the college throughout the festival.

“We wanted to do something family free for a nice afternoon out,” Brominski said. “It’s really something to see.”
