DALLAS TWP. — Construction on the six-stage Upper Demunds Road Realignment Project will begin in June, a project engineer said Tuesday.

Stephen C. Giampaolo, senior project manager, and Jason Weston, an engineer, both with McMahon Associates Inc., presented the project’s three-year timeline to the Dallas Township supervisors Tuesday night.

The project will start with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation accepting bids in April and construction slated to for the middle of June, Giampaolo said.

Stage one of the project will focus on adding left turning lanes to West Center Hill and Hildebrandt roads at the intersection with Route 309, Weston said. Plans show Hildebrandt Road will have an extended 165-foot-long left turn lane. Center Hill Road will have an 185-foot-long left turn lane.

During the lane construction, temporary traffic lights will be installed at the intersection of Route 309, West Center Hill and Hildebrandt roads, plus new traffic lines will be painted, Giampaolo said.

“New signal lights will be installed,” Weston said, adding that the intersection work is estimated to take nearly two months.

Simultaneously, crews will begin clearing vegetation and grading for the new branch of Upper Demunds Road above the township municipal building, Weston said.

Stage two will involve constructing a two-way road off Upper Demunds behind the municipal building, Giampaolo said.

Stage three and four, from March 2017 to June 2017, will close off a section of Upper Demunds Road from the “S” curve to an area right before the Country Club Shopping Center’s entrance.

Crews will build a new section of roadway that will extend from original Upper Demunds Road to behind the medical clinic where a new intersection will be installed, Weston said.

Stage five, from September to October 2017, will consist of building the final connection from Route 309 to the new section of Upper Demunds Road, Weston said.

Also, during stage five, Irem Road will have curbing installed making it a “right-on-right” turn onto Route 309, Weston said.

“This was a safety issue,” he said.

Stage six, from March through April 2018, is the removal of the old section of Upper Demunds Road from the “S” curve to the County Club Shopping Center, Weston said.

The next regular meeting of the Dallas Township supervisors is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 16 in the municipal building.
