WEST PITTSTON — Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Sunday around 4:01 p.m. at Friendly’s Food Mart, 301 Wyoming Ave.

According to West Pittston Patrolman Kyle Calvey, police were dispatched to Friendly’s Food Mart at 301 Wyoming Ave., for an armed robbery in which the cashier was assaulted with a handgun.

Calvey said when police arrived on the scene, they found the cashier was bruised from being struck multiple times by the suspect. According to police, the suspect walked into the store pointing what appeared to be a black handgun at the cashier, demanding the money and struck the cashier with the handgun.

The suspect then took the money and ran from the store. The suspect left with approximately $360 cash, police said.

The suspect was reportedly wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black snow cap and blue jeans.
