WILKES-BARRE TWP. — A local man was notified by Sprint on Wednesday that an account in his name has an outstanding balance of over $4,000 in unpaid cell phone bills. The problem was, he told police, he never opened the account.

Police said someone had used the victim’s personal information to open the account in his name in 2003. According to the police report, the outstanding account balance is $4,463.

Police said they still didn’t know who may have opened the account.
