DUNMORE – There will be a single lane closure in both directions of state Route 29 between Exit 2 and Exit 3 going into effect today and Friday.

The southbound lane will be closed today and the northbound lane will close Friday for work on the South Valley Expressway Project, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.

The lane closures are scheduled to last for the next 12 months.

A similar single-lane pattern began in July 2014 and continued through October for milling and paving as part of an $8.9 million restoration project.

When the project began last year, PennDOT spokesman James May expected some traffic delays would come as a result of the work, adding the delays could be moderate to severe.

“Any time you take a road from two lanes down to one, especially during rush hour, you will see some delays,” he had said.

May had also said the delays could extend into Nanticoke and Plymouth as motorists seek alternate routes to avoid the congestion on the South Cross Valley Expressway.
