WILKES-BARRE — Times Leader staff members garnered two awards in this year’s Pennsylvania Associated Press Managing Editors Association contest, the Associated Press reported Friday.

The newsroom won a second-place staff-wide award for spot news coverage for its reporting on the verdict in Hugo Selenski’s double homicide trial. Sportswriter Tom Venesky also won a second-place award in the sports/outdoors column category for his column, “Respecting all wildlife big and small.”

Both awards were in the contest’s division for daily papers with circulations between 30,001 and 75,000.

Forty-seven newspapers submitted 1,497 entries in the contest, which featured news and sports stories, features, editorials, columns, graphics and photos from 2015, the AP reported.
