WILKES-BARRE — A Dodson Elementary School kindergarten student who did not board a bus after school and was believed missing returned to home by himself and is safe, Wilkes-Barre Area School District Superintendent Bernard Prevuznak said.
Prevuznak said security cameras had shown Kauri Campbell-Davis, 5, exiting the school but there was no record of boarding the bus. A sibling said Kauri did not arrive at the bus stop by their home, Prevuznak added.
Apparently, Kauri walked home after missing the bus, Prevuznak said.
There are procedures to make sure all students get on the bus at schools, Prevuznak said, and he promised the mistake will be “looked into tomorrow.
Prevuznak had interrupted a lengthy and already dramatic School Board meeting around 8:40 p.m. to announce the missing student and urge anyone with information to call Wilkes-Barre Police. At the end of the meeting he announced the scare was over.
