HAZLETON — Police are investigating a crash that happened in the early-morning hours on Monday.

At 2:05 a.m., police were dispatched to the area of East 13th and Hayes streets for a report of a vehicle that crashed over the embankment and into a wooded area.

Police said that when they arrived, they saw a white 2014 Honda CRV down an embankment that was pinned between multiple trees. Upon further investigation and gathering statements, police said that the vehicle traveled north on Hates Street at a high rate of speed, went airborne over the embankment and struck a tree approximately 10 to 20 feet high.

Police said that a Hispanic man wearing a white shirt and tan shorts was allegedly seen leaving the scene. Wallys Morales, 23, a passenger in the vehicle, was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital Hazleton for treatment of his injuries.
