WILKES-BARRE — Police say a woman had her wallet stolen by a supposedly helpful passer-by while being helped into her house by a nurse.

Officers were dispatched at 3:48 p.m. Wednesday to Carey Avenue, where a 50-year-old woman told them a nurse who was helping her into her home had asked a young woman who was walking down the street if she could help her take a grocery bag and the victim’s purse into the residence.

The suspect carried the bags to the front door, but allegedly stole the wallet from inside the victim’s purse and fled on Carey Avenue toward Academy Street, police said.

The suspect is described as white, in her mid 20s, with a thin build and brown hair and wearing shorts and a sleeveless top.

The victim’s purse is described as having leopard print and two zippers.
