ASHLEY — An event on Sunday will provide a chance for the public to meet their emergency response teams.

Public Safety Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ashley Fireman’s Park on Ashley Street. According to event organizer Coby Williams, a borough firefighter and EMS, this is the second time the day has been held – the first being in 2014.

He said that everything will be free, including admission. The day is funded by the fire department and ambulance association.

“We want to make sure any family can go,” Williams said about why the whole event is free. “Community outreach.”

The borough’s firetrucks, police cars and ambulances will all be available for the public to view. A bounce house and face painting will also be provided.

After the 2014 event was a success, Williams said the services were all looking forward to holding another day.

“This is something positive,” Williams said.

Williams said he took the helm as organizer because it makes emergency personnel more approachable in the event of an emergency, especially to children. He said the services want to have a positive image in the community as well as making it easier on little children.

“If emergencies are bad on all of us, it’s just as bad, if not worse, for children,” Williams said.

And as of Wednesday, Williams was happy because now he can watch the weather and it’s looking like there isn’t a chance of rain for the event.
