PITTSTON — A Wilkes-Barre man who stands accused of raping a Dupont woman in September, was arraigned on Wednesday.

According to an affidavit, a witness arrived at a residence on Main Street at about 1 p.m. on Sept. 24 with the alleged victim fleeing from the building with Almyadd VanDyke, the defendant, behind her.

The witness, not named in the affidavit, said she called police because she got a “bad feeling,” about the way the victim had quickly left the residence.

Police said, when questioned, the victim described being violated anally, orally and vaginally.

VanDyke, who the affidavit said lives on Franklin Street, is charged with rape, indecent sexual intercourse, unlawful restraint, indecent assault and tampering with evidence.

District Judge Alexandera Kokura Kravitz set his bail at $200,000.

VanDyke remains at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for inability to make bail. His preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. Oct. 12.
