HAZLETON — An accident between a car and pedestrian sent a woman to a hospital Thursday afternoon.

According to police, Jose M. German Santos, 42, of Hazleton, was driving a green Chevrolet Tracker when he struck a 34-year-old female pedestrian at 3:10 p.m..

Upon a search of the car, Hazleton police found an open container of alcohol and a substantial amount of marijuana, police said.

The woman was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest for head trauma and serious injuries.

German Santos was charged with once count each of aggravated assault by vehicle, possession with intent to deliver, tampering with or fabricating evidence, recklessly endangering another person, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence, having an open container of alcohol in the car and careless driving causing serious bodily injury, police said.
