Periods of heavy rain are possible in the Wyoming Valley into the weekend.

The National Weather Service indicated it was 59 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, and overcast skies were reported.

Cloudy skies are expected today, along with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Less than a tenth of an inch of total rainfall is expected, and the high will be near 68.

Those cloudy skies will carry over into tonight, along with rain likely after 1 a.m. The rain could be heavy at times, and up to a quarter of an inch of rain is possible. The low will be around 59.

Rain, which could be heavy a times, is expected on Friday. Up to half an inch of rain could fall, and the high will be near 64.

Rain will continue to be likely into Friday night, and it could be heavy at times. Up to half an inch of total rainfall is expected, and the low will be around 43.

Mostly cloudy skies are expected on Saturday, along with a 30 percent chance of showers between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. the high will be around 50.

Mostly cloudy skies are predicted for Saturday night, with a low around 39.

Mostly sunny skies will round out the weekend on Sunday, with a high near 57. Partly cloudy skies will follow into Sunday night, with a low around 42.
