HUNLOCK CREEK — No one was injured in a crash involving a school bus with students on board Thursday.

Crews were dispatched at 7:30 a.m. for a report of a crash in the area of Route 29 and Thorny Apple Road. The crash involved a pickup truck and a bus.

Derrick Ellard, the driver of the truck, said he was traveling south on Route 29 to go to work. He said the bus turned onto Route 29 from Thorny Apple Road into his lane of travel when the collision occurred.

“Next thing I know, I’m (pressing) on the brakes, and the airbag is in my mouth,” he said.

The bus sustained damage to the rear wheel well, and Ellard’s vehicle sustained major damage.

Chief Howard Kocher of the Lehman Township Police Department said eight students were on the bus at the time of the crash, but no injuries were reported. Students had to be transported from the crash scene by another vehicle.

Kocher said the bus will be cited for having an expired inspection, and the crash is under investigation.
