Mixed precipitation could fall in the Wyoming Valley through Wednesday night, followed by a slight chance of snow as the week draws to a close.

According to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service, a system will bring a mix of snow and rain into the region late tonight and into early Wednesday. A few inches of snow will be possible across higher terrain, where precipitation is expected to mainly be snow.

No watches or warnings have been issued for Luzerne County.

The forecast

The National Weather Service indicated it was 26 degrees as of 5:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, and fair skies were reported.

Mostly sunny skies are expected for most of today, but clouds will gradually increase and rain will be likely after 5 p.m. Up to a quarter of an inch of total rainfall is expected, and today’s high will be near 42.

Rain will be likely before 8 p.m. tonight, followed by rain and snow overnight. Up to half an inch of snow accumulation is expected, and the low will be around 35.

Rain and snow will continue to be likely before 8 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a slight chance of rain between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Less than half an inch of snow accumulation is expected, and the high will be near 43.

Mostly cloudy skies are predicted for Wednesday night, with a low around 29.

Thursday will once again bring cloudy skies, along with a slight chance of rain and snow showers between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. followed by a a slight chance of snow showers into the evening hours. No precipitation amounts have been predicted, and the high will be near 38.

Mostly cloudy skies will follow into Thursday night, along with a slight chance of snow showers. The low will be near 25.
