PITTSTON — A Wilkes-Barre man accused of raping a woman in September is heading to higher court on charges.

Almyadd VanDyke, 36, appeared before Magisterial District Judge Alexandra Kokura Kravitz for a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Court documents indicate VanDyke’s charges of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful restraint, simple assault, indecent assault, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence were held for county court.

According to an affidavit, a witness arrived at a residence on Main Street in Dupont at about 1 p.m. on Sept. 24 with the alleged victim fleeing from the building and VanDyke giving chase.

When questioned, police said, the victim reported being assaulted anally, orally and vaginally.

A woman who was allegedly grabbed by Van Dyke in an unrelated incident told the Times Leader in September police could have kept him off the street.

VanDyke is scheduled for a formal arraignment at the Luzerne County Courthouse at 10 a.m. on April 6. He remains jailed for lack of $200,000 bail.
