HARVEYS LAKE — A borough man is in prison after he beat his mother and killed the family dog, according to police.

Police Chief Charles Musial said Charlie A. Ide, 34, beat his mother on March 14.

According to Musial:

Ide used a baseball bat to beat his mother to the point of a brain bleed. The attack left her with a severe injury to her skull, arms and legs. Police have not released the mother’s current condition.

Musial said Ide also took a the bat to the family dog, who died from his injuries.

Court documents show Ide has been charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault, and one misdemeanor count each of simple assault, killing a domestic animal and recklessly endangering another person.

Ide was arraigned Monday in front of District Judge Rick Cronauer. Cronauer denied bail as the “defendant poses a serious threat to his mother.”

Ide faces a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. March 30 in front of Magisterial District Judge James Tupper.
