WILKES-BARRE — A Ukrainian man is facing charges after he allegedly robbed two people while they were inside a vehicle.

Valeriy Nyevdakh, 56, faces charges of robbery, assault, harassment, and possession of an instrument of crime with intent stemming from the alleged robbery.

Police said a 36-year-old male and a 15-year-old female were in their vehicle on East Northampton Street at 12:25 a.m. Wednesday when Nyevdakh allegedly entered the vehicle, struck the male, and began taking items from the vehicle.

Nyevdakh then allegedly fled the area, but was later apprehended by police.

It was determined through his identification that Nyevdakh is from Ukraine, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was notified.

Court documents indicate District Judge Michael Dotzel arraigned Nyevdakh on charges on Wednesday. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Thomas Malloy Sr. at 10 a.m. on March 30.

Nyevdakh is jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $50,000 bail.
