PLYMOUTH — A new food festival is coming to Main Street and organizers hope the idea sticks.

Home of the ever-popular Kielbasa Festival, Plymouth will add another event to its fun festival list — “Stick With Us” — a food-oriented event featuring food on a stick. The event is set for Saturday, May 6, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The 15th annual Kielbasa Festival will be held in August.

Terry Womelsdorf, chairman of Plymouth Alive, said 12 vendors have already signed up, and he hopes more will sign on.

“We wanted to do a unique event that hadn’t been done yet,” Womelsdorf said.

Appropriately, the announcement was made on March 28 — National Something on a Stick Day — a food holiday that celebrates food served on a stick.

Womelsdorf said the committee wanted to tailor the event so kielbasa vendors could participate. He said the hope is that all vendors — food and non-food — will be creative in how they present their respective products.

“Definitely, vendors can offer items other than food,” Womelsdorf said. “For example, a jewelry vendor could display their items on a branch from a tree. That meets the requirement of a stick.”

Womelsdorf said the “Stick With Us” festival will be held in one of two locations — the Wyoming Valley West High School parking lot off of West Main Street, or the municipal parking lot on East Main Street in the center of town.

“We all know that the Kielbasa Festival is one of the most successful events in the area; however, it is a long way off, and we are looking to hold another event in May,” Womelsdorf said.

This new venture will be significantly different from the Kielbasa Festival, Womelsdorf said. Everything needs to be prepared, served or displayed on a stick..

Like the Kielbasa Festival, Womelsdorf said entertainment will be provided throughout the day with several acoustic acts performing. He said the committee is hoping vendors respond with ideas and suggestions to make the event even more fun.

Womelsdorf said the Kielbasa Festival began 14 years ago with less than 20 vendors.

“And look how much we have grown and prospered with everyone’s help and support,” he said.
