KINGSTON — A woman is facing charges after she allegedly bit officers that were attempting to take her into custody.

The officers bitten, according to a criminal complaint, suffered visible injuries to their hands.

Destiny Lombardo, 23, of Pittston, was scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Diana Malast on Wednesday.

Court documents indicate Lombardo’s charges of aggravated harassment by prisoner and resisting arrest were waived to county court.

Her other charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and one charge of aggravated assault by prisoner were dismissed.

Court documents also indicate that her bail was decreased from $50,000 to $1,000.

According to the criminal complaint, police officers were dispatched at 2:03 p.m. on March 23 to the parking lot of Choices, a rehabilitation facility on Wyoming Avenue, for a report of a female fighting with a probation officers.

The police officers arrived and saw a woman, identified as Lombardo, in handcuffs and shackles on the ground.

Probation officers on the scene told police they came to the facility to take Lombardo into custody for violating stipulations of Luzerne County Drug Court.

Lombardo was taken into custody without incident and placed in the probation officers’ vehicle so she could be transported to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.

At some point while in the rear of the vehicle, Lombardo allegedly removed her handcuffs. When a probation officer opened the rear door to speak with her, Lombardo allegedly quickly exited the vehicle and attempted to flee.

The officers attempted to bring her back into custody, but Lombardo allegedly resisted. During the course of the struggle, Lombardo was taken to the ground — during the struggle, she allegedly bit the hands of both probation officers and caused visible injury.

When speaking to officers about the incident, Lombardo allegedly yelled “I only bit you because your hand was close to my mouth.”

Lombardo is scheduled for a formal arraignment at 10 a.m. on June 1 in the Luzerne County Courthouse. She remains jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.
