BLOOMSBURG — An annual block party held by Bloomsburg University students lived up to its rowdy reputation once again this year with at least one car being overturned.

A resident of West 3rd Street said his car was damaged so badly it had to be towed.

“We were laying in bed sleeping and we heard a loud crash, came outside to the car being upside down. The guy was already out walking around,” says the car owner, who asked we not use his name.

“He was definitely stumbling and the smell of alcohol was already on him. I think this is the lack of control that they have over this weekend and the injuries to the residents that live here all year long.”

The spring-time tradition comes just two weeks before finals and has been a campus mainstay for more than two decades.

“I’m happy it’s not raining,” said Ellie Smith, West Chester University student who was attending the party.

“We’re getting wasted either way!” interrupted another student.

Four years ago, an armored vehicle called a Bearcat was called in to assist.

“We had the Bearcat here a couple years back, so right now it’s pretty fun. I like it compared to other years, I mean, it’s about equal,” says junior Zach Ashford.

The party began on Friday and lasted into the early hours of Sunday morning.
