The Luzerne County Redevelopment Authority was awarded $175,000 in state money Monday to help with repairs to seven railroad bridges, officials said.

Gov. Tom Wolf announced $40 million in funding for projects statewide through the State Transportation Commission.

The county authority will use its allotment for tie alignment and replacement, tree removal and walkway replacement.

The improvements are slated for rail bridges in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties, according to authority Executive Director Andy Reilly.

Here’s a rundown of planned work:

• Pier nose repairs at the Kingston Susquehanna River Bridge, plus the clearing of trees and brush from approaches and piers.

• Walkway planks will be fixed at the Wilkes-Barre Secondary Trolley Bridge.

• The Hudson East Thomas Road Bridge will have ties realigned, plus walkways and shims replaced.

• The concrete bed will be restored at the Hudson Mill Creek Bridge, plus shims will be replaced and ties realigned.

• The Wilkes-Barre secondary “Fat Lady” bridge will have a bearing replaced and a walkway repaired.

• Trees and brush will be cleared from approaches and pilings at the Dunmore Spring Brook Creek bridge.

• The Avoca RBMN bridge will have ties replaced.

Reilly said it was “too early” to know when the state money would arrive.
