Thunderstorms are expected to impact the Wyoming Valley as the new week begins.

According to a hazardous weather outlook by the National Weather Service, strong to severe thunderstorms with heavy rain are expected today and into tonight. Localized flash flooding will be possible in areas that receive torrential downpours. Some thunderstorms may produce damaging winds and large hail.

No watches or warnings have been issued for Luzerne County.

The forecast

The National Weather Service indicated it was 67 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, and mostly cloudy skies were reported.

Clouds will increase throughout the day, and showers and thunderstorms are likely after 5 p.m. Some storms could be severe, and a total of a quarter of an inch of total rainfall is possible. Today’s high will be near 81.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely before 3 a.m. tonight. Some storms could be severe, and up to half an inch for total rainfall is possible. Tonight’s low will be near 69.

Partly sunny skies are expected on Tuesday, along with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected, and the high will be near 84.

Partly cloudy skies are predicted for Tuesday night, along with patchy fog after 2 a.m. The low will be around 68.

Mostly sunny skies are expected on Wednesday, along with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. The high will be near 90.

Partly cloudy skies will follow into Wednesday night, along with a slight chance of showers. The low will be around 68.
