PLAINS TWP. — The Luzerne County coroner said a 3-year-old child’s drowning in a pool on Perkins Street on Wednesday afternoon appears accidental, but police are still investigating the death.

Coroner Bill Lisman did not release the name or gender of the child, but said the toddler was pronounced dead at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital shortly after being admitted.

“Right now, it’s being looked at as an accidental drowning,” Lisman said.

Emergency responders were called to the 43 Perkins St. home around 12:45 p.m. for a reported drowning in the above-ground pool in the yard. An officer at the scene said the child was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

The officer said he could not provide additional information.

Police returned to the house later in the afternoon. A message left with the department was not returned by press time.
