WILKES-BARRE — City and regional law enforcement made dozens of arrests in a recent joint operation targeting violent crime in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties.

Between Friday and Saturday, Pennsylvania State Police, the FBI and other agencies conducted a series of warrant sweeps in an initiative dubbed “Operation Triggerlock, Phase II,” according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release.

The objective of the program, the release said, is to rid communities of violent criminal activity and its offenders.

Police said they arrested 11 individuals with outstanding warrants. The release also detailed the following results from the sweep and a proactive community policing effort:

• Twelve individuals were arrested on drug possession and distribution charges.

• Nine individuals were arrested for driving under the influence

• Two individuals were arrested for fleeing and eluding police

• Sixty-two individuals were arrested on traffic related offenses

Police also conducted a “walk and talk,” through designated high crime areas within Wilkes-Barre City, designed to advise residents of law enforcement efforts and efforts being made to curtail crime.

Other agencies involved included the Office of the Attorney General, the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office, the Luzerne County Sheriff’s Office and multiple municipal police departments.

This is the second time the Operation Triggerlock initiative was made, the first being on the weekend of June 24 and 25. Police said the initiative will continue with future events.
