AVOCA — Yes, it was hot today. But, as they say, it was a dry heat.

The thermometer hit 92 degrees at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport on Monday, breaking the previous area record of 89 for Sept. 25, according to the National Weather Service. That mark was set in 1908.

Humidity was a desert-like 39 percent at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

It will be hot again on Tuesday, with a projected high of 87 and mostly sunny skies after the day begins with patchy fog. The record high for Sept. 26 is 88, set in 2007.
