Things looked good for Wyoming Area’s girls basketball team from the start in its season opener Thursday night in Exeter.
The Warriors look an early lead after Nicole Wright hit a three from the right wing. But North Pocono answered with a three for itself. They then went on a 12-1 run, eventually upending the Warriors 55-34.
Wright finished with a trio of three and had 11 points for Wyoming Area. The Trojans were balanced all evening. North Pocono put nine players in the scoring column with Kaitlyn Lewis finishing with 13 points.
North Pocono came out in a full-court press that had different looks at different times. The Warriors did a nice job early, but the Trojans began to shut down the middle to cause costly turnovers for the home team.
The Trojan lead was built up to 19-4 with less than a minute remaining thanks to a flurry of fast break points. But the Warriors weren’t out of it yet.
Felicia Turner hit a shot from the short corner with 30 seconds remaining in the first. Then, following a turnover, Wyoming Area got a big three from Wright with 20 seconds remaining to cut the North Pocono lead to 10 points.
Katie Wolfgang finished with six points for Wyoming Area.
