Pittston Area finished its fourth straight unbeaten season back in mid-February. But junior Mia Nardone’s season was just getting started.
At the PIAA Class AA Swimming and Divining Championships held at Kinney Natatorium on the campus of Bucknell University, Nardone was up to her old tricks.
In the preliminaries Friday, Nardone posted a time of 1:00.03 to propel her to 14th out of 32 qualifying swimmers in the state. She was nearly five seconds off the lead, but swimming still at a blistering pace as she has all season long.
In the finals Friday night, Nardone posted a similar mark of 1:00.06, good enough to finished 16th in the state.
This was the first time Nardone was at states in two years. She made it as a freshman.
Nardone qualified for the state meet by winning her first PIAA District 2 gold medal after posting a time of 59.67 at the Wilkes-Barre CYC. Last year, Nardone just missed heading to states, but locked up a silver with a time of 1:01.26.

On a team that featured just two seniors, Pittston Area ran away with Division 3 of the Wyoming Valley Conference. The finished the season by dominating second-place Wyoming Area, 127-59, to lock up the perfect season.
Pittston Area’s Sierra Williams, along with Wyoming Area’s Keirsten Lasher will be competed in the final day of the championships Saturday in one-meter diving.
