The Dupont Lions next meeting is Dec.8 at 6:30 V.F.W. in Dupont. Past President Bart Bryk is pictured receiving an Award from Past District Governor Chris Kalmanowicz.

The AMVETS Post 189, the VFW Post 4909 and the American Legion Post 657 will host a program today, December 7, commemorating Pearl Harbor, at the Dupont Municipal Bldg. beginning 11:00 a.m. Veterans and participants will meet at the VFW Post 4909 at 10:15 a.m. refreshments and then proceed to the Municipal bldg at 10:45 a.m. for the program. After the ceremonies everyone is invited for refreshments at the VFW Post Home on Main Street.
Council Meeting
Dupont Borough Council will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, December 9 in the James Cocco Council Chambers beginning at 7:00 p.m. Final adoption of the 2009 budget will take place at this meeting.
Also on the agenda, Council will discuss amendments to the current ordinances, regarding mandatory trash collection, requiring all residents to participate in the borough’s collected waste program.
Refuse Bags
The Hub Store on Bear Creek Rd will discontinue selling additional borough refuse bags as of December 10. They will resume selling bags in the spring of 2009.
Dupont Borough will mail the 2009 refuse bills to residents on December 10 and all payments must be made at the borough office only beginning December 11. The municipal office will have extended hours on Mondays 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Tuesday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Anyone needing a weekend appointment can call the borough office to make special arrangements.
Eco-Action Club
Dupont Borough would like to thank those businesses who joined the recycling efforts in 2008. This service was offered to businesses to recycle through curb side pick-up, as part of the Eco-Action Club long term goal of reducing landfill waste, conserving energy, increasing recycling and returning valuable resources to productive use through increased recycling totals. Through all these efforts a grant application was submitted for the purchase of a new hybrid recycling truck.
Tenant Ordinance
Dupont Borough reminds landlords and property owners to register all tenants with the borough office and to advise all tenants are required to purchase 2009 refuse window stickers and refuse bags by January 31, 2009 at the borough office.
King’s Kids
The third meeting of the King’s Kids, created by Senior Girl Scout Cara Sepcoski, is scheduled to be a Christmas Extravaganza at St Mary’s Church in Avoca on Sunday, December 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The program is for children of all ages from Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont , St Mary’s and St Peter & Paul’s in Avoca.
There are plenty of surprises planned for the big event, including a special visit from Santa Claus.
Children are asked to please bring a small unwrapped toy for the “Toys for Tots” drive. Reservations can be made with Tara Lovacchini at 954-2456 or email at [email protected]. Please note, for email, the word “party” should be placed in the subject box. Deadline for reservations is Sunday, December 14.
VFW Christmas Party
The Dupont VFW Post 4909 Home Association will hold their Annual Christmas Party at the Post Home this Saturday, December 13. The fabulous Goerge Tarasek Orchestra will provide musical entertainment from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. A dinner buffet will be served from 7:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. and the bar will be open from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Children’s Party
Dupont Borough will hold the annual community Children’s Christmas Party on December 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the VFW Post Main Street.
Gold Star Award
Congratulations to Jessica Lynn Twardowski, a Girl Scout with Troop 3701, Dupont who achieved her Gold Star Award this year. Her Gold Star Project encompassed all facets of restoring the “Our Lady of Fatima” Grotto at the Oblates of St. Joseph on Rte 415, Pittston Township.
Choir Practice
The St. Cecilia Choir of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church will hold choir pratrice on the following dates: Thursday, Dec. 11 and Dec. 18 and on Monday, Dec. 22 from 6:30 – to 7:30 in the choir loft.
