Pittston Area’s Eastin Ashby and Allison Rinehimer of Berwick battled for supremacy in long-range shooting on Friday night at the 45th annual Dr. George P. Moses Senior All-Star Classic.

At halftime of the annual game, Ashby and Rinehimer squared off with Rinehimer coming out on top, 8-6. Ashby, although she didn’t win the contest, certainly made her mark during the game.

The Pittston Area senior contributed 10 points, while hitting a pair of threes early in the game. The East squad won the game, 75-50, after starting strong and never looking back.

Pittston Area coach Kathy Healey served as a coach for the East.

In the boys game, the West took the win, 110-77.

The preliminary rounds of the three-point contest were held last Sunday at Coughlin High School.

Rinehimer served notice early when she tallied seven points in her first series of attempts to tie Hanover Area’s Mickie Kaminski and reach the final four. Ashby, however, was forced into a shootout with Julie Kosik of Holy Redeemer and Brittany Miller of Hanover Area after all three finished with five points.

Ashby then torched the nylons with 11 points to reach the final four with Kosik, who netted six points.

In the semifinals, Ashby continued her torrid shooting with nine points. Rinehimer netted 4 and Kosik and Miller had three each.

At one point, Ashby nailed nine straight shots from the top of the key in the quarters and semifinals.
