WILKES-BARRE – A man was arraigned on drug and false identification charges and another man on false identification charges before District Judge Andrew Barilla, Swoyersville, in Wilkes-Barre Central Court Friday.

According to court documents:

On June 17, Kingston police stopped a black pickup truck following a report of suspicious activity. Police discovered that the driver of the truck, Donald K. Violini, 40, of Hunlock Creek, was driving with a suspended license. Police then asked Violini’s two passengers to exit the vehicle and identify themselves.

Both of the men said they did not have identification, but gave their names to police. Violini was cited with driving with a suspended license and the men were released.

A short time later, police learned through further investigation that the passenger who identified himself as Matthew Shemanski, 25, of Wilkes-Barre, was in fact Jonathan M. Kemmer, 26, of Mountain Top.

At approximately 6 p.m., police observed a white minivan enter the parking lot of Dairy Queen, Wyoming Avenue, to pick up Violini. Police stopped the van, found Kemmerer sitting in the passenger’s seat, and immediately placed him under arrest.

Police then questioned the driver of the van and a passenger, who identified himself as John Sims. After further investigation, police discovered that the man was actually Robert Sims, 34, of Harveys Lake. John Sims is his brother, police said.

Police also found Sims in possession of a spoon, hypodermic syringe and packets containing suspected heroin residue.

Kemmerer is being charged with providing false identification and false reports to police and is being held on $15,000 straight bail.

Sims is being charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia and with providing false identification and false reports to police and is being held on $25,000 straight bail.

Both men are being held at Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of bail.
