Major Baseball

Plains 16, Pittsotn Twp. 7

Joe Cencitti hit a solo home run for Pittston Township, but it wasn’t enough to get past Plains in an elimination game Tuesday.

Plains got big games from Kyle Costello (home run) and Josh Rhodes (3 RBI) en route to the win. Garret Warble added a grand slam, while Carl Yastremski had a solo shot.

Nanticoke 9, Pittston Twp. 5

Adam Eckhart made the home crowd happy with a walk-off grand slam in the sixth inning in the Nanticoke win. Colin Brown and Dylan Szychowski also had hits as Austin Norton was the winning pitcher.

Joe Cencetti pitched 4.2 innings of one-hit ball and had a double of his own for Pittston Twp. Logan Booth, Stevie Sciandra, Jake Gardner, Tyler Cebula, Matt Cardinale and Mark Ranieli also chipped in with hits.

9-10 Baseball

Jenkins Twp. 19,

South Wilkes-Barre 10

Jenkins Township overcame a seven-run deficit to prevail against South Wilkes-Barre Tuesday. Matt Johnson led the team with four hits.

Anthony Goyla, Mike Prociak and Alex Prete each had two hits. Aiden Flaim was the winning pitcher.

Pittston City 9, Jenkins Twp. 6

Ethan Ghannam picked up the win and also added two hits and scored three runs as Pittston City defeated Jenkins Township 9-6 Sunday in District 16 9-10 Baseball pool play.

Eric Pisack had a perfect day at the plate by going 4 for 4 with two doubles and scoring two runs. Cole Ferranti and Devin Markert also had two hits for Pittston City.

Kyle Breymeir had two hits for Jenkins Township while Joseph O’Malley, Tyler Wassel and Aiden Flaim all added with a hit.

Hanover 9, Pittston Twp. 4

Pitcher Zachary Murphy picked up the win in the Hanover victory over Pittston Township Sunday. Gavin Isopi, Nathan Jaslar and Jacob Zola all had hits for the team.

Anthony Cencetti had three hits for Pittston Township.

Duryea 5, Plains 4

Drew O’Malley and Ryan Zapko combined on the mound for the win Sunday against Plains. Jeremy Cawley led Duryea with three hits Connor Mulhern and Dave Dehm contributed with two hits each.

Sawyer Koretz had three hits for Plains.

10-11 Baseball

West Pittston 10,

Wyoming/West Wyoming 3

Dalin Stine had a perfect day at the plate by going 3 for 3 with three RBI in the West Pittston victory. Shawn Kostak (double, run scored), Jeremy Lavelle (triple, RBI) and Noan Donahue (two hits, RBI) also added to the offensive explosion. Ethan Kozben pitched three strong innings in the win for West Pittston.

Tyler Harden was 2 for 2 with a double and RBI for West Pittston, as Nick Elko (1 for 2) and J.P. Gober (1 for 3) also had an RBI apiece.

9-10 Softball

Mountain Top 13,

Duryea/Pitt. Twp. 2 (4 inn.)

Pitching Taylor Yeager pitched four no-hit innings in the winning effort for Mountain Top in the tournament opener.

Nanticoke 4, Jenkins Twp. 1

Elizabeth Mendrzycki struck out 11 in the winning effort for Nanticoke.

Eva Serino also had 14 strikeouts for Jenkins Township.


Major Baseball

Kingston/Forty-Fort 7, West Pittston 4

Rocco Barchi and Colin Conway, along with Tommy Federici all combined for the Kingston/Forty-Fort win on Tuesday.

Federici added a home run and a double, while West Pittston’s Chase Yochem had two singles for West Pittston.

Back Mtn. American 16,

West Pittston 2

Will McCrum cracked the game open with a grand slam, then later added a three-run shot Monday as Back Mountain American erupted against West Pittston for a 16-2 victory that made a statement in the District 31 finals bracket.

He did that twice, and made it harder for West Pittston to recover at the Back Mountain Little League Field.

McCrum’s bases-loaded blast over the left-center field wall gave defending district champion American a 6-0 lead in the second inning.

Then in the fourth inning, McCrum’s cannon-shot that cleared the center field fence in the fourth also brought home Todd Phillips and Jake Connolly for a 15-1 American advantage during a six-run rally that ensured the game would end early.

9-10 Baseball

West Pittston 11, Exeter 1

J.J. Hood picked up the win and had two hits as West Pittston beat Exeter in five innings Tuesday.

Hood, Evan Melberger and Nick Ross each had multiple hits. John Morgan had a hit for Exeter.

Exeter 2, Swoyersville 1

Pitchers Jack Mathis and Drew Mruk combined on the mound in the Exeter victory on Sunday over Swoyersville. John Morgan also had two hits.

Brad and Brian Gill each had hits while Tyler Casterline had six strikeouts in the losing effort for Swoyersville.

Back Mtn. National 8,

West Pittston 4

Chris Killian and Mike Sholtis led Back Mountain National with three hits apiece Sunday in a win over West Pittston. Will Youngman, Mike Murray and Josh Noone each had two hits. Youngman struck out five in 2.2 innings.

Jason Wiedl had three hits for West Pittston.

9-10 Softball

Greater Wyo. Area 13,

Kingston/Forty-Fort 9

Anna Wisnewski struck out 16 batters and had two hits of her own in the winning effort for Greater Wyoming Area on Tuesday.

Ella Schultz (double), Alyssa Gustitus (single and triple) and Cassandra Scritunas (single) provided the pop.

Greater Wyo. Area 12,

Bob Horlacher 2 (4 inn.)

Pitcher Anna Wisnewski had 11 strikeouts in the Greater Wyoming Area victory. Jocelyn Williams, Ella Shultz, Toni Menichello and Alyssa Gusgitus also all had singles.


Kingston/Forty-Fort 7,

Greater Wyo. Area 6

Patrick Kasson hit a walkoff two-run home run for Kingston/Forty-Fort on Wednesday.

Greater Wyoming Area’s Alex Gonzalez scored two runs, while Kyrie Zelienski doubled and scored.
