Mountain Top topples Plains in Little League matchup

PLAINS — Aiden Murphy tossed 5.2 innings and allowed three runs in the winning effort for Mountain Top in the District 16 10-11 year old Little League game on Wednesday. Murphy, Zach Andrews, Shea Makowski and Brennan Magin all had hits. Jakson Amend and Jacob Zaleski also had doubles for Mountain Top.


Dante Vitali, Ian Gartlet and Matt Egidio all had hits for Plains.


DISTRICT 31


SENIOR BASEBALL


Northwest 7, Kingston/Forty Fort 1


Tyler Kolb came through for Northwest, striking out 10 while allowing just two hits to earn the win. He helped his cause with three hits at the plate. Tyler Long chipped in with two hits and Andrew Boberick added two RBI in the win.


KingstonFF Jamie Lapidus had a hit and drove in the lone run for Kingston/Forty Fort


Northwest advances to the tournament finals, which it will host at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sweet Valley.


DISTRICT 16


JUNIOR BASEBALL


South Wilkes Barre 17 Hanover Twp. 5 (5 inn.)


Pitcher Noah Edwards struck out nine a the winning effort, as well as, going 3 for 4 with five RBI for South Wilkes-Barre (SWB). Jay Deininger also went 2 for 3 for a double while Luke Richards had a single with two RBI.


Colin Cook had a perfect day at the plate by going 2 for 2 with two RBI for Hanover Twp.


SWB will play for the championship Saturday at 1 p.m.


DISTRICT 16


9-1o BASEBALL


Nanticoke 4, Mountain Top 3


Nick Matson got the win and combined with Justin Spencer on a six-hitter with six strikeouts in the Nanticoke victory. Matson Devyn Sura also had two hits. Derek Cease also had a hit and an RBI and Ethan Egenski, Owen Brown and Colin Mackiewicz all contributed with singles. Charlie Casey also scored a run.


Colin Williams had a three-run homer for Mountain Top as Adam Litchkofski alsohad two hits. Nathan Lyons, Zac Antosh, and Matt Smith all had singles while Nick Kreuzer scored a run.


Nanticoke will move on to the sectional tournament on Monday and play at home.


DISTRICT 31


JUNIOR SOFTBALL


Kingston/Forty-Fort 16, Northwest 2 (5 inn.)


Winning pitcher Mel Raskiewicz struck out five and was 2 for 2 at the plate with six RBI in the Kingston/Forty-Fort victory. Katie Rincavag also went 3 for 3 at the plate and scored three runs as Payton Boler and Loren Pizano each chipped in with two hits.


Morgan Kline led Northwest with two hits as Amy Ruckle and Hanna Wisniewski also chipped in with hits.


The win gave KKF the District 31 championship and will move on to sectionals starting on July 16.


DISTRICT 16


10-11 SOFTBALL


Nanticoke 12, Mountain Top 2 (4 inn.)


Winning pitcher Kasidy Slusser had four strikeouts along with a double and an RBI in the Nanticoke victory. Riley Baird, Ali Keener, Abby Cullen, Nina Zendarski and Krystin Montgomery all had hits. Myla Vnuk and Olivia Nice each had a hit with an RBI.


Hailey Mago had a single as Kelsey Caladice and Abby Waite each had a single with an RBI for Mountain Top.


The Nanticoke girls are the District 16 10-11 softball champions.


DISTRICT 31


9-10 SOFTBALL


Back Mountain 15, Greater Wyoming Area 14


Kaci Hockenberry went 5 for 5 and was a home run shy of the cycle as Back Mountain won the District 31 championship game. Mimi Bendick (4 for 4) and Sidney Thomas (3 for 3) also had perfect days at the plate. Sommer Zier-Norris picked up the win for Back Mountain. Mia Fenske also went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple while Maura Verecin went 4 for 5 with four singles.


Anna Wisnewski had 11 strikeouts and two singles of her own for Greater Wyoming Area. Ella Schultz went 4 for 5 at the plate with four singles as Linzie Skoronski and Toni Menichello also had two singles apiece.


LEGION BASEBALL

Plains 4, Wilkes-Barre 0

Four Plains pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter to propel the team to victory. Joe Champi was one of the four pitchers and contributed at the plate by going 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Frank Brodi had the only hit for Wilkes-Barre.
