It’s certainly something different.
The two schools have played just about every sport against each other. But what about a 5k?
The graduating classes of 1989 from Pittston Area and Wyoming Area will hold the inaugural “Rivalry Run” on Saturday, Aug. 30.
The charity run/walk event will benefit the Jamie Baker Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Warrior Pride Scholarship Fund, offering schools from both sides of the river an opportunity to come together in support of current and future alumni with much-needed scholarship funds.
The 5k will begin at Pittston Area High School and end with a lap around Anthony Sobeski Stadium at Wyoming Area. it begins down Stout Street and Main Street in Pittston, then over the Water Street Bridge. Next is a left on Susquehanna Avenue, a right on Delaware Avenue, eventually finishing at the stadium on Boston Avenue.
The top male and female runners will receive a trophy.
Cost is $15 prior to Aug. 15, $20 on race day. The first 200 participants will receive a T-shirt. Donations and pledges for the two scholarships can also be made.
