PLAINS TWP. — Northwest advanced with a 6-2 victory over Green Ridge Wednesday in the Section 5 Senior Baseball tournament. Reese Godfrey was the winning pitching, allowing one hit and striking out six in five innings of work.
Andrew Boberick jolted the Northwest offense with three hits, three runs and an RBI. Bryce Harrison and Tyler Long each produced two hits. Tyler Kolb drove in two RBI on a single.
Northwest faces North Pocono today at 5:30 p.m. at Hilldale Park in Plains Township.
North Pocono 8, Plains 5
Despite outhitting North Pocono, Plains fell in the opening game of the tournament. Andy Lenkofsky went 3 for 4 at the plate for Plains. Mike Brown, Tyler Kurilla and Ryan Dougalas each had two hits. Nike Cerec doubled.
Joe Bonanno picked up the win for North Pocono. Zac Gux, Sean Haddock and Dan Griffith each scored two runs.
Plains will take on Green Ridge today at 5:30 p.m. at Shoemaker Field in West Wyoming.
Wallenpaupack 4, Nanticoke 3
Mabrett Lavant had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the six by driving home Wyatt Peifer. TJ Schmalzle had two hits and two runs scored. Peifer also had two hits, including an RBI. Brett Strong chipped in with a double. Garrett Tomkin had a single.
Ethan Egenski doubled and drove in two RBI for Nanticoke. Derek Cease had a double and a run scored. Nick Matson singled and scored a run. Bryan Keegan also had a run scored.
Wallenpaupack will play in the championship against Kingston/Forty Fort today at the Newport Little League field.
Nanticoke 9, West Scranton 7
Justin Spencer drove home three runs and had two hits, including a triple, as the Nanticoke 9-10 team remained alive in the double-elimination Section 5 tournament by staving off West Scranton in an elimination bracket game played Tuesday.
Ethan Egenski and Colin Mackiewicz both had two hits, including a double apiece, in the victory and Egenski scored two runs for Nanticoke. Nick Matson scored two runs for Nanticoke, while Bryant Keegan, Owen Brown and Ayden Everett also had singles in the victory.
Cayden Mearifield had three hits for West Scranton, which also got two hits including a solo home run from Billy James. Zack Kowanick Lloyd had two hits and drove home two runs for West Scranton. Michael Golay had a double and two RBI in defeat, while Zachary Lloyd and Vito Ciullo both had singles for West Scranton.
Back Mountain 6, Nanticoke 2
Back Mountain’s Abby Jayne and Sommer Zier-Norris combined on a one-hitter with nine strikeouts. Kici Hockenberry was 2 for 3 with a double. Sidney Thomas posted two singles.
Elizabeth Mendrycki had 10 strikeouts in a losing effort for Nanticoke. Mendrycki gathered the lone hit.
Back Mountain faces North Pocono Thursday in the championship.
