February 2004

Lake-Lehman sophomore Joe Klemunes recorded three key pins during the PIAA District 2 Class AA Wrestling Chamionships, helping the Black Knights capture their fourth straight team title.

Lehman’s Matt Dragon (145 pounds) captured his third district championship and was named the tournament’s “Outstanding Wrestler.”

Dragon, Jeremy Schutz (135), Andy Josuweit (140) and Derek White (130) each won individual titles.

February 1994

Lake-Lehman’s boys basketball team squeezed past Dallas, 62-61.

Dallas held a six-point halftime lead before the Black Knights poured it on in the second half. The final two points — scored from the free throw line by Lake-Lehman’s Tim Brislin — were the deciding mark in the final seconds.

February 1984

Lake-Lehman’s girls basketball team scored 25 points in the fourth quarter to beat Crestwood, 56-49, to claim the school’s first Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 championship.

Guard Kim Fey finished with a team-high 15 points, while Ronda Hudzik chipped in with 13. Sanday Dicton added 12 points for the winners.

February 1974

The Dallas wrestling team captured team honors at the PIAA District 2 Wrestling Tournament held at the John Long Center in Scranton.

The Back Mountain squad earned a total of 88 points advancing 10 to the semifinals and placing six in the finals.

Three Dallas matmen won individual championships, including Dave Puchalsky, who was undefeated on the season and earned the “Outstanding Wrestler” at the tournament.

February 1964

John Brominski and Thomas Kerpovich each won first place at the PIAA District 2 wrestling tournament at Wilkes College.

Brominski took the title in the unlimited class, while Kerpovich won the 160-pound class.

February 1954

The Lake-Noxen girls basketball team finished an unbeaten season to earn their second straight championship for coach Florence Worth.

Members of the team were: Florence Sutliff, Judy Searfoss, Esther Gailey, Jean Ide, Charlene Kocher, Marilyn Traver, Eunice Traver, Patsy Jones, Tanya Kocher, Nancy Space, Jane Dougal, Carol Deets, Barabra Rood, June Ladamus, Edna Gosart and Beverly Steltz.

February 1944

With a 44-23 win over Laketon, the Lehman Township girls basketball team finished the season undefeated to win the first championship at Lehman since 1937.

Arlene Wentzel scored 22 points against Laketon and finished the season with 133.

The team was led by all seniors except for junior Betty Lewis.
