DALLAS- Kenny Durling broke the Misercordia University career hits record with a grand slam in the sixth-inning to lead the Cougars to a 20-9 victory over Rutgers-Newark University at Tambur Field Tuesday.
The grand slam was Durling’s 216th career hit, which surpassed Nate Newman’s record of 215 set back in 2011.
Connor Moriarty went 3-for-4 from the plate with two triples, a double and seven RBI, while Joe Tagliarini chipped in two hits and four RBI.
Pete Doggett earned the victory on the mound, allowing four hits, three runs and striking out three in five innings of work.
The win moved Misericordia to a 15-3 conference record, which ties the Cougars for first place with DeSales in the Freedom Conference.

Misericordia failed to get on base in the opener as Muhlenberg’s Kelsey Jones pitched a perfect game.
Jess Armillay was credited with the loss, allowing four hits in six innings of work.
In the nightcap, Mallory Getts recorded two hits for the Cougars, while Megan Hardy chipped in a hit.
WOMEN LACROSSE Wilkes 19, King’s 13
Sophomore Carley Smith surpassed the 100-goal mark for her career with a season-high seven goals as Wilkes defeated King’s.
With the win, the Lady Colonels earned a Freedom Conference Tournament berth for the first time in school history.
Krystina Villareal led King’s with four goals.
Brittaney Costigan stopped seven shots for Wilkes in the victory.
WOMEN’S TENNIS Misericordia 7, Cortland 2
Michelle Cameron, Cassie Foy and Breanne Phillips won their singles and doubles matches to lead Misericordia.
Emily Boro and Emily Hullings added singles wins for the Cougars.

John Butchko recorded 10 service points, four digs and 27 assists to lead Wyoming Valley West to a victory over Berwick.
