The Emanon Day for Autism Golf TOurnament, benefiting S.A.F.E. (Supporting Autism and Families Everywhere), will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23 at Emanon Country Club.


The tournament is Captain and Mate, and begins at 8 a.m. with tee times all day.


The tournament is seeking sponsors and donations. A Tee Sponsor is $30. Please make check payable to Mildred Petrucci and send to Modern Market, 1179 Wyoming Avenue, Exeter PA 18643. Be sure to include the company anme, address and phone number.

Pittston Township


Fall baseball/softball


Any child wishing to play baseball or softball this fall from Pittston Township area , PA Middle School, or PA Primary Center are encouraged to signup for the fall season. Coach pitch , minor and major baseball and softball will be offered. Fees will be $40 per child and $60 per family. Tteeners baseball and softball will also be offered. The teeners fee is $55 per player. Signups will be held at the Pittston Twp. Little League field on Thursday, July 31 and Monday, Aug. 4 from 6-8 pm.


Lady Warriors bball


camp scheduled


The Wyoming Area Young Lady Warriors Basketball Camp is scheduled for July 29 to 31 and from Aug. 5 to 7 at the Wyoming Area gymnasium.


The camp will run from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Cost is $60 per player and each player will receive a T-shirt. The camp is open to all girls in Northeast Pennsylvania going into grades 3 through 8.


The camp is organized by Wyoming Area Head Coach Chad Lojewski. Additional instructors will be Alison Wolfgang, Mike Stefanik, Rich Musinski, Len Lojewski, Dave Mattes and Jacob Plank. Special guest instructor is Larry Koretz, former professional player and LaSalle University standout.


Proceeds benefit the Wyoming Area girls’ basketball team. To sign up, mail registration fee to Wyoming Area Girls Basketball, c/o Ann Mazzatelli, 29 E. Sixth St., Wyoming, PA 18644. Registration may also be taken to the gym on the first day of camp.


Zaffuto’s Baseball


Skill Camp set


Pittston Area baseball coach Paul Zaffuto Baseball Skills Camp will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on August 4, 11, 18 and 25 at the Pittston Twp. Little League, and on August 7, 14, 21 and 28 at Duryea Little League. September and October sessions will be released once the Fall baseball schedules are finalized.


Cost is $150 per person, which includes access to all 16 practice sessions at two little leagues, Zaff-Camp practice gear: Flex-Fit hat, T-shirt, long sleeve T-shirt, shorts and socks.


The coaching staff will include the Pittston Area baseball staff, Sam Parenti (University of Pittsburgh baseball captain and alumni) and Rob Lemoncelli (King’s College alumni). All staff are unpaid.

St. Monica’s golf


tourney is Aug. 24


The St. Monica Parish Second Annual Golf Outing, which benefits projects of the parish’s Christian Society, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 24 at Four Seasons Golf Club in Exeter.


Registration is at noon with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Cost is $50 per person or $200 for a foursome. Refreshments will be provided on the course with prizes and dinner afterwards.

Basketball camp cancelled


Mark Casper’s basketball camp at Wyoming Area Catholic has been cancelled due to the replacement of the gym floor at WAC. The camp was scheduled to be held Aug. 4 to 7.


Black Shamrock Open

The Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick will be hosting their annual Black Shamrock Open on Saturday, Aug. 9, at Blue Ridge Trail Golf Course. The format of the tournament is Captain and Crew and entry fee is $80 per golfer.


The event will tee off at 1:30 p.m. with refreshments at the course and a buffet meal following the tournament at the golf course. For more information contact the organization president Lee Monteforte at 570-954-5450 or any active member of the Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. Registration should be completed as soon as possible.


The tournament committee meets at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Knights of Colombus in Pittston.


Sponsorships are also available at several different levels.


Friendly Sons member Bob Calpin will be on hand with golf tips at the start of the tournament.


The proceeds from this event will benefit the Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Scholarship Program.

The 2014 Class of the Ring of Pride will be honored at halftime during the Wyoming Area vs. Wallenpaupack football game on Oct. 24 at Anthony “Jake” Sobeski Stadium, West Pittston. Members of this year’s class of the Ring of Pride are Jim Carmody, Jamie Kudrako, Jeff Hague, Scott Schalles and Fred Marrianacci.


The 1984 championship team, led by Leo Malsky and Jeff Hague, will also be honored that night.

booster club meeting


The Pittston Area Football Booster Club is in need help to cook/serve the meals during doubles practices. The dates are: Aug. 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19 and 20. Please report to the high school cafeteria between 4 and 4:30 p.m. on any of the dates listed. Any help is greatly appreciated.


The stand will be cleaned on Saturday, Aug. 2. Please report directly to the stand by 9:30 a.m.


Monday, July 28 is the last day to turn in program ads to the Cefalo Center between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m..


The club is seeking donations of non-perishable items for the stand which include: BBQ Sauce, Relish, Mustard, Ketchup, Blue Cheese and Ranch Salad Dressing, Vinegar, Coffee, Hot Chocolate, Tea Bags, Sugar Packets, Non-dairy Coffee Creamer, Napkins, Paper Towels, Plates, Soda (Coke products, cans only), Water, PowerAde (no Gatorade), etc.

Fun Day


American Legion Post 585, Duryea is having a Fun Day at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders Game at PNC Field, Moosic. WA, PA Class of ‘89

The graduating classes of 1989 from Pittston Area and Wyoming Area will hold the inaugural “Rivalry Run” on Saturday, Aug. 30. The charity run/walk event will benefit the Jamie Baker Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Warrior Pride Scholarship Fund, offering schools from both sides of the river an opportunity to come together in support of current and future alumni with scholarship funds.


The run is open to everyone, but each runner must pick a side - Wyoming Area or Pittston Area. So, a person from the Back Mountain, or anywhere else for that matter, can run but must pick a side.


The 5k will begin at Pittston Area High School and end with a lap around Anthony “Jake” Sobeski Stadium in West Pittston.


The top male and female runners will receive a trophy. Cost is $15 prior to Aug. 15, $20 on race day. The first 200 participants will receive a T-shirt. Donations and pledges for the two scholarships can also be made.

The Tom Durkin Memorial Avoca Open Golf Tournament will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 at Pine Hills Country Club in Taylor. Format is Captain and Mate. Cost is $90 per golfer which includes course fees, cash prizes and a meal after the tournament at the West Side Club.


Proceeds benefit the AOH Scholarship Fund & Local Charitable causes supported by the Avoca AOH.

West Wyoming Hose Co.

The West Wyoming Hose Co. #2 will be hosting its first golf tournament on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Emanon Country Club in Falls. The tournament is open to all amateur golfers.


The format will be Captain and Crew with an 18-team max. Prizes will be awarded in three Flights, along with first and second place. There will also be a Hole-In-One Million Dollar Shoot-out and Hole-In-One Car Shoot-out. The entry fee is $75 per person, $300 per team and includes cart and green fees, lunch and refreshments throughout the day, gift to all golfers and dinner.
