A website claims that a new indoor football team will be playing at least one game in Mohegan Sun Arena as early as November.
The only problem — the operators of the Wilkes-Barre Township arena have never heard of the team.
The website wbssoldiers570.com claims that the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Soldiers will play an exhibition game at the arena on Veterans Day, Nov. 12.
According to a Facebook posting from Mohegan Sun Arena, that is not the case.
“It has come to the attention of SMG, operators of the Mohegan Sun Arena, that the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Soldiers football team has stated on its website and Facebook page that it will be playing football games at Mohegan Sun Arena,” the posting says. “This is false information. Please be advised that Mohegan Sun Arena has no affiliation with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Soldiers football team.”
The posting goes on to advise fans that Mohegan Sun Arena sells tickets exclusively through Ticketmaster and will not be responsible for tickets from any other source.
“We would welcome sports teams to the arena whether it’s football or lacrosse, but we have had no discussions with this team and we only sell tickets through Ticketmaster,” SMG general manager Rebecca Bonnevier said.
The team’s website does have a link to a PayPal account to purchase “MVP Memberships” for the team at $55 apiece.
A phone number listed on the website was not receiving calls.
