HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The 2017 Pennsylvania Farm Show is underway in Harrisburg, and the chickens are back.

Poultry exhibits were canceled at last year’s farm show due to the threat of avian influenza. Pennsylvania lifted the ban earlier this year. Officials say new controls have been put into place to prevent the spread of bird flu.

The 101st edition of the farm show opened to the public Saturday. About 700 poultry exhibits will be on view through the first three days. Among the 130 chicken breeds on display are the frizzle, the naked neck and the familiar Leghorn.

Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding tells the Reading Eagle (http://bit.ly/2iNr7zA ) that visitors missed the chickens last year, and he’s glad they’re back.

The farm show runs through Jan. 14.
