NANTICOKE — Forty-three people have applied to be the next president of
Luzerne County Community College.

Paula Conahan DeJoseph, chairwoman of the presidential search committee,
told the board of trustees at a regular meeting Tuesday that 15 of those
applicants are local, 27 come from other parts of Pennsylvania and elsewhere
in the United States, and one is from Canada.
The board is seeking a successor to the late Thomas Moran.

Academic Search Consultation Services, of Washington, D.C., which is
assisting the board in its search, has referred another 17 applicants to the
committee. Of that group, one is local.

The consulting firm will be paid $33,500 for its services. The board’s
search committee has a line item budget within the college’s operating budget.

The first installment of the bill, a payment of $12,300, was made this
month, DeJoseph told the board.

DeJoseph said the college also is seeking nominations for the post from
various organizations. They include community colleges, superintendents of
regional high schools, the chambers of commerce of Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton,
Pittston, Berwick and Nanticoke, and several women’s organizations.

The college asks people who are nominated if they are interested in
applying for the position.

Two nominations have been received, bringing the total potential candidates
to 62 so far.

DeJoseph said the consulting firm estimates the committee should expect 60
to 80 candidates total.
